Chuck - Congrats on your starter herd!! RAB offers some excellent advice and the vaccinations should be at the top of your list along with a strong parasite control like Ivemec Plus or Valbazon. How's the nutritional value of your grass? I would definitely get them going on a balanced nutritional program to get their body condition up. If you don't have any grass or clover going you may want to get them on a combination of hay and feed. Or maybe some liquid supplemental feed. Looks like you have a fun project to jump into!!

BCS = Body Condition Score

Alex's Mom,

I completely agree that it makes no sense to rotely teach play skills - I think teaching toy play by rote discourages creative play and is just sort of weird. When we first started ABA we used a cow for object imitation and he was required to make the cow jump, now every time you hand him a cow he makes it jump and just sort of waits there expectedly like "okay I jumped the cow, now what?" - as a result we are constantly trying to come up with stealthy ways to teach my son both academic and appropriate play skills.

On a side note I recently came across a list of "what it takes" to be the parent of a child with autism - one that made me laugh out loud was "Never ending explorer of ways to say "GOOD JOB!"

How true!!

here's a link to the entire list:

oh no, more, Supergranny, if I go sleep in the cave, you will have to moooove over, because... I'm bossy, oh, why am I so bossy, because I won't take any bull. I'm cracking myself up, because I think I'm so a-mooo-sing. Oh, have you herd the next joke?

This one is so old, I used to tell it when I was a little girl... bet you can't wait, lol. oh, I remember a couple, well, here goes...

Why do cows wear bells? Because their horns don't work.

Where do cows get there clothes? From Cattle-logs

And one of my all time favorites as a kid...
How did the cow jump over the moon? She used her cow-ta-pult.

Oh, I forgot how much I loved cow jokes...
and even more I loved elephant jokes... I can't seem to remember any of those right now... aren't you fortunate...

Cytat:

Head circumference at birth in the autistic group tended to be smaller, actually, than averages for all infants at birth. Length and weight averages were the same.

Holy cow. This is fascinating. I do have to say that Colin doesn't fit this profile at all, though. His head size has been consistently at the 95th-100th percentile. There was no sudden jump, and he sure didn't start out with a smaller head...he started right out in the 95th at birth. Nor was he small at birth. He was 9-1 and 22 inches.

I do love studies, so keep posting them! I'm just pointing out that Colin yet again doesn't "quite fit" any one profile. Isn't that always the way...

Thanks, all, for the input. I'm considering genetic testing...I just have to think how to bring this up to DH without him thinking I've snapped my cap entirely.

Wow that little grey pony is amazing!

Here's a fave pic that is a memory from an awesome trial ride down the Bow River Valley in Canmore AB

When I saw this picture I was like, how cow, my little horse can actually jump!

I like how soft and relaxed she looks in this pic, especially since we were just warming up to jump and I wasn't really trying to do my best flatwork - funny how that can work sometimes.

Oh my, Lee, that sounds horrible! Glad to hear that you are now a big softy (cotton ball)!

I have been making good progress with my girl. She gave me a bit of air time yesterday, but I spun her around in a tight circle for being sassy with no just cause...she just gets a little excited when we are out at Bear Creek pushing the cattle along the chute. She was really brave last night pushing them up, even thought she was going to bite a slow cow, but then when she was done working she thought she should jump around and act like a stupid blonde!

Oh well, every time out is just a little better, but I will be on my guard for another humbling experience.

Nice race and good PR/PB. 3rd in your AG is great. Fast is self-defined. The course looked absolutely beautiful. Love the pastoral runs. Much like PEC without the big cities of Wellington, Bloomfield and Picton. Also have to love a race whose marathon fee is $22 and is out in the middle of nowhere. Think the Green Mountain name scares people off. It is a race I have thought of doing. The challenge in the fall is that between Ontario, Quebec and Upper USA, there is just too many great choices.

Canalrunner, why do I hear a flute every time I see your avatar??

Good question, I always look for the big chair for two to curl up on, or the rocking chair in the middle for those who like to rock and then I wait for the cow to jump over the moon.

Cytat: cow racing!! cool....how do you do it?

apparently it is not as real-life as the bowling. you just hold the controller and tilt it forward to go forward, up to jump and otherwise steer. you are supposed to catch as many scarecrows as possible. i was good at catching trees, hurdles and fences. scarecrows - not so much. i believe the score was something like 160 to 20.

i will go visit little Spencer this afternoon. he seems less competitive.

Hello Everyone,
I have been lurking for the past few weeks and decided I needed to just jump in.

I started running about 2 years ago. When I started I would run for 2 minutes and walk for 4 minutes (Holy Cow, those were the longest 2 minutes EVER! )
I have come a long way and did my first 5 km race this spring and completed my second 5 km last week and shaved 3:59 off my time.
It always amazes me when I go for a run and I get faster and can go longer.

Being VERY CLOSE to 40, my family thought I was nuts but they are very supportive and I am having a blast!

Notice of series delay...

Sorry readers, good news and bad news.

Jump bug infection in pleasantview, AUGH!!! CURSE YOU TONO!!! YOU NEVER MAKE THING EASY FOR ME DO YOU!!! Good news, plan series NOT being Canceled. I repeat, IT NOT GETTING THE AXE YET! Clone construction in blank neightborhood underway, and I think I can add the change added to plot line (let just say, Tono's "Death" left a "wake" in good old Pleasantview). At current time, Andross, Audrey and Tono just finished collage (again), and Audrey is raising Alpha (yeah Thanks to Renee AKA cowforbrains2 recent quicky legacy, Alpha nolonger useless). Estimated time of new chapter... 2-3 weeks due to my job's current 6-7 day strait work weeks recently... Hopefully sooner.

I so hate Tono...

Thanks for the Avatar comments. I liked the big chair for two to curl up on and I always waited at the end for the cow to jump over the moon.

I like Ottawa, it is now my hometown marathon and have done 6 marathons and 1 half there over the years, but I think if I had to substitute I'd think about the Vermont Marathon in Burlington. Good reputation. B and J ice cream. Same day as Ottawa. Vancouver is supposed to be good as well. Calgary in June just seems like it would be hot.

I am a slow poster, but I figured I better get around to this now since everyone else is posting their avalon photos..haha..

So first up are some pictures that Christi got of us at the cowichan exhibition on the jumping day..Dont mind me wearing my back protector in any of these photos...i just feel more confident wearing it. We did the 2'3" medal class and got 2nd in it, did the hoof and woof which is 2'0 and got 4th in it, and we did the team jumper class but got disqualified because our 2'3" riders horse decided it didnt want to jump. But for the team jumper class Jake and I did 2'6".
Anyway Here are the pics...

These first ones are of our 2'3" medal class

Last of the 2'3" class, then I will move on to the team jumper class photos..

I had a little standardbred mare that hated jumping with a passion. anything over 18" and there wasn't a snowballs chance in hell of getting her near it much less over. She got very upset with jumping, choppy stride, refusals. She was a great dressage/cow horse. And is now quite happily being worked as a trail and cow horse in nanoose.

On the other hand, I've had several horses that loved jumping. Never showed any displeasure in doing so, perked right up when led into a ring with jumps set up. If you brought them towards a jump the ears would go farther forward then I'd normally see them. My thoroughbred would get very excited and over jump. And if you were trying to hack her in the ring with the jumps, but were acting as if you were along for the ride instead of actually riding her, she'd make b-lines for the jumps. She even jumped polls on the ground.

If they like it, they'll show you. Some horses grow to love it but like people there are those that will always be unhappy about it to varying degrees.

UT-OH!! I broke da board.

Oh well.

The rodeo was great. For a very small county, I think they did an outstanding job.

Events ranged from calf riding for 9 -12 y/o's to wild cow milking. The object is for a two man team to rope a cow that has lived on the range for a loooong time and then milk it enough to get it to pour from a can. The cows were not happy with the arrangement... Barrel racing and pole bending in three groups -- peewees - kids around 9-12, juniors 12-17 and 18 and up. They all did great as far as I was concerned! Bare back bronc riding and wild cow riding in the same age groups. And the "pony express." Riders have to ride a certain distance, jump off one horse and on to another and finish the race. It started with two team of two nine y/o GIRLS. The one was unbelievable! She came screaming in to the switch point, dropped off the horse and leaped into the saddle of the next and was gone in a flash! The next was kids around 15 who had to ride a full lap and do the same. And then the seniors. Seniors? Still around 19 and not knowing any better. They had to make two switches and do three laps. All three rode bareback. Once the first horses took off the others were wanting to run too and it was all the handlers could do to hold them. All the teams were Indian kids from the Colville Reservation. I think they were all born on a horse. Amazing to watch.

I know I had a GREAT time!!!

Wow I have a few lol

Scary one.... we were on a trail and I was riding a pony i rode all the time ho is petrified of cows well about like 300 metres through thick bush (you couldn't even see it) he heard a cow moo and we're not sure what happened exactly but he wheeled and went over well actually completely flipped over a wire fence. He didn't land on me but when I opened my eyes there was a stick like an inch from my eye!!! We had to bend the fince down and lay Money Pitt meadows jacket on the wire and coax him across..... pretty scray.

Funny. wow i have alot!!!!!! Once we were doing no stirrup jumping and I think it was just me and my friend in the lesson. Well we were all having a really good time and laughing really hard at something. So I went up to canter and went towards the jump (still laughing really hard) and someehow I managed to literallly thorw myself off over the fence and land on the ground (still laughing really really hard) it was really weird LOL

I also had to ride this like 11-12 hand pony. he as a caspian and thin as a rail. he was dead green. so after he bucked off my ex coaches daughter i got on. welll as soon as he put his head down I was a goner. I got bucked off twice. we all laughed really hard even though I ended up hurting m tail bone lol

Hi, Roo,

I had rabbits until recently and used to talk about them all the time (remember Balder, Clytemnestra, Vashti and Fatty Boy?) I turned over my living room to them and fenced it all off with portable fences to stop them from chewing on the baseboards and mainly to stop Inertia from eating their food. They got along fine with my coonhounds. I never left the living room fence open when I wasn't home to supervise, as I was concerned that Inertia would play too roughly with them or that Job would express his disapproval of impertinent snacks more openly, but neither dog ever tried to jump the fence. These were the first rabbits that I had ever owned, and I was amazed at their intelligence and strength of personality. I found them on a par with the cats that I have owned. And I think that is the best context into which to put your questions. Would you put a cat in an outside box for the winter? If you were raising them to sell for meat or fur, you probably would. It's not realistic to expect every farmer to provide mental stimulation and cuddles for every pig and cow on the farm. If they are physically comfortable then they are far better off than their counterparts in the factory farms. On the other hand, if your cat is a beloved pet, you would be thinking about how bored and lonely it would be in a box by itself.

LMP: Congratulations! We also used the Baby Bumblebee videos to jump start language and they were phenomenal. One day, while Danny was watching the video with the horses, he ran out of the room. I was just about to chase after him when he came back into the room carrying two horses from the Fisher Price Farm! I was absolutely flabbergasted. Talk about generalizing! Another time, shortly thereafter, he was holding a horse in one hand and a cow in the other while watching the video (he always needed something in each hand and still does sometimes). The part of the video where they show hands came on. He suddenly dropped both animals on the floor and intently stared at his hands as if he had never seen them before. I'm such a nutcase that I actually burst into tears. I was so happy that he even knew he had hands and had made the connection with the video.

Just a suggestion, which you probably are doing anyway: You might want to collect some items that they show on the video and put them in a laundry basket near the VCR. When LM is watching (and assuming you have the energy!) you can pull items out (concrete, real world items) as they appear on the video. Balls, spatulas, blankets, toy animals, etc. are probably floating around your house anyway, so it's not too much work to collect them. Good Luck!

yeah I guess it would be better if all those unwanted TB's went to the packer's instead of the chucks. These horses are doing their jobs, which they love or they wouldn't do it.

I guess I find it kinda funny..an eventing accident gets posted and it's "Oh poor this, so tragic" but not a whole lot of "DOWN WITH EVENTING"

I really fail to see any differences. Everytime you take your horse over a jump, down a cow down the rail, round a barrel, hell even step out onto the trails you are risking your horse's well being. You never know if you'll broadside the cow and roll, maybe he messes up and lands on his neck instead of his feet off the jump, or breaks a leg because of some slight inconsistancy in your barrel footing. Yes chucks are dangerous and fast, but these people (hey, maybe like you even!?) practise all year, and they don't go into it thinking "Hey maybe i'll kill my team today" A little understanding goes a long way.

In the animal rights folks eyes, we're all the same. Start banning one, and pretty soon, your sport will be on the chopping block. Just something to concider.

I don’t see any reason why the horses would not eat the hay after you spread the manure. We harrow the over-winter cow manure from the cattle into the fields in the Spring and the horses like the first cut very much! I miss spelt Agrologist in my first post…The Agrologist will be able to predict your yield based on the soil samples and the fertilizer/irrigation regime.

Current theory on field management suggests that the less you disturb the field the better nature cares of it. We generally kill the fields prior to re-planting every few years and use a special seeder to avoid disking. This way the soil maintains it’s natural balance/bacterial colonies etc. So, with this in mind, I would limit the harrowing to occassionally as it may have unwanted effects. Your local agrologist would provide recommendations based on your local conditions that will certainly be different than here in the Nicola.

I am currently installing a pivot irrigation system to my Top field; you guys on the coast don’t know what dry is! I expect a big jump in yield next year from the improved irrigation.

Cytat:I have indeed had the experiance with Windows ME. It was an improvement over windows 98 even if you don't think so.

ROFL, you clearly haven't USED-used it. Microsoft themselves will descreetly tell you what an utter failure and joke Windows ME was. If you've worked/deal with any IT company dealing with anything from customer support to developing you'd know that WinME is probably the worst OS ever released in history for a multitude of reasons.

And WinME was never going to be an improvement over 98. It was going to be a facelift and a cash cow which would appeal to the average home user with System restore thrown in (and fuck knows something like that would be needed)

Vista supports the latest DX, looks pretty and most of all ships with virtually all new pre-built systems, which is why it'll eventually become dominant. Vista's "security" really isn't anything *that* special. In fact people who are dumb enough to download xxxpornfree4lyf.exe from an email coming from are going to run it whether they are asked "do they really want to?" or not. Vista makes the simplest of tasks harder for the rest of us. Tried getting into cmd prompt in Vista? Yeah. Who the fuck would know you have to open Explorer, hold down the shift key while right-clicking a random folder and then select a hidden menu. Can they make us jump through more hoops? What a shit load of fuck!

Fuck Vista. But fuck.... at least it ain't WinME.

Thanks for your encouragment ladies, I really appreciate it. And since Luke took the letters from his alphabet puzzle and spelled the word JUMP, I'm feeling much better about his progress. (He also spelled COW which is a word that is spelled in his favorite Blues Clues video) I'm sure he saw the word Jump on a video too. At least he IS learning something right? Even if it's just from memorization.

Funmum - I have always let my boys try sports.

DS17 has tried the least amount, he played a couple of seasons of non competitive YMCA soccer, took a diving class, plays golf and he was on the swim team in 8th grade and even won a couple of races but the HS swimteam is an extreme team and he wasn't into getting up at 5 and swimming for 2 hours. He did enjoy dance and is excellent at tap and irish dance.

DS13 has done gymnastics (could have been competitive in this if we had had a boys team in town, closest an hour away -no), YMCA soccer, baseball for 3 years, basketball, cross country, track, golf. He likes the running sports and actually is a pretty decent golfer and this summer would like to try tennis. Not into swimming really. He enjoys dance and does great at Jazz and modern ballet.

DS9 has tried soccer, basketball, baseball, golf, is interested in wrestling, gymnastics and really shows no talent in any of them but has fun. Golf is actually scary with him as he is a lefty and swings more like he is playing baseball. He is still learning to swim so that may be a sport he will enjoy.

All 3 boys love to ski and are quite good so of course we live where there is very little real snow and the closest tiny ski resort is an hour away.

Nancy - glad you had a fun weekend, ATV's scare me, I rode one once and got mixed up on the gas and brake for some reason and tried to jump an electric fence and got dumped on my butt and landed on the fence - everyone laughed at me and I got cow poop sprayed all over me but it really scared me - never again. WE were riding in a cow pasture.

Have soup on to eat and the must drop ds9 off for his dress rehearsal for Oz, pick up friend and take ds13 and friend to Red rehearsal, read my 4 pages and then run to theater board meeting. DH is going to dress to take notes on shots he wants to get for the video he will be making.

Must take the strawberries, water, pop and sour straws, part of which are for snacks and part of which are for concession donations.

Off to eat the soup so we can get out of here. Have a great Monday evening.

Chuck Norris is awesome.
When Chuck Norris jump in a lake Chuck Norris doesn't get wet the lake gets Chuck Norris.
Chuck Norris has a night light not because Chuck Norris is afraid of the dark the dark is afraid of Chuck Norris.
Chuck Norris once round house kicked a cow in the chin and now we have giraffes.
Every night the boggie man checks under his bed for Chuck Norris.
I got a million of these.

YOU CAN'T BLAME THE YOUTH (PETER TOSH)

You can't blame the youth
You can't fool the youth
You can't blame the youth
(Of today)
You can't fool the youth

You teaching youths to learn in school
That cow jump over moon
You teaching youths to learn in school
That the dish ran away with spoon,

So You can't blame the youth
(When they don't learn)
You can't fool the youth
(Can't fool the youth)
You can't blame the youth
(Of today)
You can't fool the youth

You teach the youth about Christopher Columbus
And you said he was a very great man
You teach the youth about Marco Polo
And you said he was a very great man
You teach the youth about the pirate Hawkins
And you said he was a very great man
You teach the youth about the pirate Morgan And you said he was a very great man

So You can't blame the youth of today
You can't fool the youth
You can't blame the youth
You can't fool the youth

All these great men were doing
Robbing, raping, kidnapping and killing
So-called great men were doing
Robbing, raping, kidnapping

So you can't blame the youth
You can't fool the youth
You can't blame the youth
(none at all)
You can't fool the youth

When every Christmas come
You buy the youth a pretty toy gun
When every Christmas come
You buy the youth a fancy toy gun

So You can't blame the youth
You can't fool the youth Y
ou can't blame the youth
You can't fool the youth

But What was hidden from the wise and prudent
Is now revealed to the babes and the sucklings
What was hidden from the wise and prudent
Now revealed to the babes and sucking
Lord call upon the youth
Cause he know the youth is strong
Jah Jah call upon the youths
Cause he know the youth is strong

So you can't blame the youth
You can't fool the youth
You can't blame the youth
(Save the children)
You can't fool the youth.

WHOA DOUGHNUTS...

See what happens when I go away for a weekend with no internet. Holy cow poop

..I left off on "Doctor Visit".. so you can imagine my When I finally got to get on here. But anyways, here I go

First off, Emma makes me smile a little. Second, Taylor is still super observant. Third, Sarah's still missing? Hurm...Im sure she's alright. And I know im probably going to get rotten tomatoes thrown at me for this, but oh well. As much as I love Sarah, i'm backing Jonas on this one. True he does sort of have a one track mind, but cmon if I were in the same situation, and a guy was leaving these weird tapes on my doorstep trying to give me information, and I had the opportunity to meet him, I'd jump on it with both feet. He might have even gone out there with the primary intention of meeting the Dr, but the secondary intention of looking for Sarah. I could have been very possible for her to turn back around to the Project, but maybe it just so happened he met the Dr. first. Actually if you want to know my theory (which is kind of unstable since it's 2:30 in the morning but ill give it a go) Sarah could possibly still be there, and Jonas just didnt find her, he found the Doctor first like I said. True, she did call Taylor but we all know Sarah's quite persuasive, and a good b.s.er. And as for his no mention of Emma or her rash, he might not have even watched her video. If I were him, i'd be on long enough to scout out anything from Taylor pertaining to the videos that were sent to her, and probably wouldnt even pay attention to anyone else. But anyways, throwing myself back onto the 'right topic' track..

And now we meet the good Dr. Well...we're not exactly sure about the "good" part yet, but I am crossing my fingers. I personally got a good impression so im not too worried. What i'm wondering is, did he go back to the hotel room with Jonas? Bah, I dunno. Anyways, im glad the plot is spicing up a bit, im excited to see what they talk about and what the Dr. reveals. Cause right now im still kinda on the confuzzled side as I see crackers scrambling to figure out Gina's location. If I was wearing a hat, i'd take it off to them. I dont have the patience for that kind of thing

Anyways, cant wait for the next vid. Rocky, out.

Hi. I'm new here and I am concerned about my 20 month old son. He has some odd behaviors. He likes to line up blocks, sometimes loosely grouping them in colors. He lines up puzzle pieces perfectly and usually takes them out and replaces them in the same order. He will sometimes play with a car the right way, but also likes turning steering wheel toys. He likes to dance to the Wiggles, and frequently performs a certain dance. He likes to look at picture books and points to the images. He has one flip book of 30 pictures that he may flip through about 4 times, looking at each picture. He loves routine, and often wants to do things in the same way. This is not to the point an object must be in the same place every time, unless I move a puzzle piece or block out of line. He does cope ok when visiting a relatives house and will find something to play with. He will not let anyone aside from myself, husband, and Grandma hold him. He likes to play outside, runs around in the grass, but does stop and line up rocks.
His eye contact is somewhat poor. He will not respond to his name if he is engrossed in something. He is not interested in playing with other children. Is this normal for 20 months? He says few words. He no longer says baba. He does not say mama or dada, although sometimes babbles these syllables. He does babble a lot. He seems to put inflectiions into the babbling. He recently picked up the term cracker. He sometimes says cow, but not muck lately. He will use the 'SSS" and "Shh" sounds for things like cereal or fish. I thought it might be because I let him have the pacifier too much, but I am worried. Yet, he does always manage to let me know what he wants through the pointing or leading. I have never felt we didn't communicate.
He does like cuddled when he's sleepy, loves to be tickled, and will find me in hide and seek, sqeeling when I jump out and say boo, but not hide himself. He did enjoy peek-a-boo last night with the shower curtain during his bath. He is attached, wants me to play beside him all the time, and will point to what he wants. He leads me to things he wants as well. He rarlely shows me something, unless he needs help working or reaching it. He walks on his toes a bit, and dances a lot while he "sings" his favorite song through babbling and the sss sound. I just don't know what to make of it. Is he just being a typical boy who is less interested in soicializing than some, or should I be worried. Help, I need some advice!

Honestly, this video is not that bad.

absoloutly no where did i see anything that deserved to be called 'sick' or 'cruel' thats just a little over the top.

I agree, it was a little too much, a little too soon, but i also think that the trainers didn't go about it too badly. as soon as the horse had a little scare by tipping over the standards, they put the jump back down to finish on a more positive note.
and yes its sad, but people who are making a living off training and selling horses are obviously going to train differently then people who want a companion first, and a show horse second. they don't intend to keep this horse until it's 20+, it's probably a resale.
but at the same time, they're not going to do things to deliberatly ruin a horse, just because they won't have to deal with the after effects. they have a business and reputation riding on their horses, and if all the horses they train and sell end up lame a few years down the road, its not going to be a very good reputation.

they count on their horses to represent them, so they're not going to ruin them just for the sake of seeing what they can do now.

and how does anyone know that it was all in the same session? it could have been a few sessions over a period of time, all put into one video.
the video always breaks once the horse has gone over the jump, so no one has any idea of how much time has passed between each jump, or if its a different day and a different session.

I don't think its fair to judge someone based on a video.
i'm sure if every one of our lives around horses were video taped, there would be some moments that might make other people think we're 'cruel' to our horses.
I've walloped my horse many times (never without reason) but i'm sure if someone was watching and they didn't know me or my horse, they might think i'm 'abusive'

my old pony used to be a PIG about standing for me to mount, to the point that if he got away with it, just a few times, he would be impossible to get on.
i was at a show, and he was being a cow and spinning his haunches to the right, so i wacked him to get him moving left, away from the direction he wanted to spin off to, some ladies watching made comments about how i was so 'cruel' and how 'horrible' i was to my pony. i would have liked to see them try and get on him when he was being a pig. it would get to the point where he could be dangerious if he wasn't disciplined, but if someone had got that on video and youtubed it, i'm sure right now you would all be talking about what a horrible horse owner i am.

it's all a matter of your perception when it's on video. it's very subjective.

I wish I still only had one horse I now have 5 They get attached, hard enough to find time for 1 nevermind 2-5.

on thet note MINI's are great the are a horsey companion but,you don't have to feel guilty for not riding them and you don't have to be worried when you take your horse for a ride that they are going to jump your fence and they cost less to feed!

Thanks Tina I will let you know. I do not think I am capable of doing what you say from 2 to 3 ft away or even able to image it. I would need to be close up and personal with the animal. I love cows too and especially sheep have always had an affinity with them. One good thing lately is I can tell when a cow is going to crap. They will do it right when they get to the chute and also inside the chute. If they are nervous it sprays everywhere. It has gotten so I can tell when a cow is leary about going in. When they bunch up together and have to be seperated I feel their tension. We have a little cattle prod it is not very strong as I have zapped myself numerous times. I am able just to activate the button and the noise makes them move out. I myself get a little stressed when I see an animal with blood visible even if it is a small amount. It shouldn't be working. If they were my cows the animal would have been seperated and put back in the pasture as I feel animals can smell the fresh blood and it makes them more nervous. I have had geldings happen at my place and I know the whole herd is unsettled from this not just the individual. I feel when you are training any animal fresh blood shouldn't be in the mix.
KD I understand but I sure Ditto what spy said. You could be a hay baron as soon all hay will be a fortune.
Have had 2 crazy days here. all the mares are in season and the big boys got out. What a bunch of nerds. Tolby was a rosy colored pink boy and JR was a sleak sweated up black boy. I had to run in the mix and break up the fight. I cannot believe they got out. I feel the only thing that saved me was that Tolby lived with his son for a number of years as JR was growing up and they reconized that. We think JR jumped out of his 5 and a half foot paddock and worked on getting tolby out so JR is now a liability and will be gelded shortly now he realizes he can jump. I am thinking that all the training he has been getting lately has increased his confidence and made him more mature and confident he can do things. Plus there is a smell about the place with all the mares in full blown season.
So all the years we have been here I find a gruesome sight. I take Tolby to the far back corner paddock till we can fix fencing we haven't been there lately and I see 3 full grown dead rabbits in a pile the heads ears and shoulders are gone even their little feet all is left is the bellys and hinds. I am thinking OOOHHH this is not good. What the heck could be doing that. I am thinking a big predater animal maybe a big cat has taken up residence. I don't think I will be feeding in the dark anymore. I waited till light to feed this morning and the little pile is still there.
Anyway such is life while the hubby is not here but I got cowboy moving in tonight hehe I think I will make him feed the late run. lol. hehe I am going to give him a knife and say here could you feed and see if he spots the little pile.

Well there was alot of first times for Lizzie this weekend. For anyone who doesn't know she is my 3 year old QH mare. I started her and she gets ridden a fair bit at home but I haven't spent alot of time taking her out....or riding her myself for that matter.

I rode her all this past week and decided we were going to the show. She was her usual quiet self all week and was doing so amazingly well so I was looking forward to the weekend.

Well....one detail she didn't seem to tell me....she is TERRIFIED of cows!!!
There were cows everywhere and she was ready to jump right out of her skin. The first day we spent alot of time walking around and trying to settle her in while the girls were showing in their 4H classes. We'd go and stand right beside the cow fence. I'd be standing in one spot and she'd canter circles around me, jumping anf snorting until she was fully lathered in sweat. Once she'd settle for even a few minutes I'd walk her away to relax and try again later.

Then by the end of the first day she had HAD it with being at the fair. She was grumpy in her stall (sorry to anyone who she was very naughty too!!) We will work on that! It was ALOT for her to take in.

Heading into the Sunday (our first day of showing) I didn't know what to expect. She was wired but not as bad as the first two days. We managed to make it through our classes and got four 4ths and a 5th. She got a 4th in reining and we had never even ridden a pattern before! We got through our trail class and she did everything....again we've never done anything like it.
So we learned alot this weekend but we made it through and all went well.
For anyone who saw her and in these pictures she did drop quite a bit of weight from her nerves and not drinking enough water but she's back home and relaxed now.

So here's the pics...

I posted this update under the homeopathy and Valtrex threads, but I am so excited I wanted to share our good news!

We had our first "Why" question today!!!! Niko came into my room at 5:30am.
Niko- "Mommy are you awake yet?"
Me- "No, honey it is still too early"
Niko- "I want you wake up now Mommy."
Me- "No, the sun is not out yet" (That is the rule at our house. They can't wake us up until the sun is out.)
Niko- "So, the moon is out?"
Me- "Yes."
Niko- "Why isn't the sun in the sky?"
me- (Now fully awake!) " Because it is still nighttime and the sun comes out when it is morning."
Niko- "ok. I'm wating for the sun come out and you wake up. Where's my magazine? I want to read it."

As you can read, Niko is now conversational. He still has to catch up slightly on his language, but considering 1 year ago he had NO full words at all and spoke mostly gibberish, his language is awesome. We had a major regression in July (went on vacation and stopped supplements, homeopathy, Valtrex and went from SCD back to GFCF for 2 weeks.)
We started a new potency of Carconosin and he had a huge fever, broke out with a couple weird pocks. We started Valtrex and then switched to Valacyclovir and his weird mouth rash finally went away! Called his homeopath and told him about the fever and pocks and he explained the body was getting rid of things but we did not have to go through regressions. He taught me how to cut his remedy down to get the positive effects without the regression. We upped his potency again (this time I cut it down) and he had no fever but broke out with a herpes lesion! No clue where that came from! Since that cleared it has been like heaven! Here is all the postives:
Niko is officially considered recovered from autism
Niko attends a general education preschool
Niko participates in class and plays with peers
Niko has a great imagination, loves dress up and pretends with invisible items
No more gibberish, echolalia or scripting and has lots of expressive and receptive language
Niko has great Gross motor skills now and loves to jump and ride his tricycle. (The peddaling came after High Dose of Vitamin A)
Niko has no more sensory issues at all!
Niko has no more food aversions and eats everything (except gluten and cow dairy. He does eat goat milk products. We do limit his sugar intake though.)
We switched from SCD back to GFCF.
No more digestive problems. Great poop, flat belly and pink tongue!
His color came back and is no longer pale with dark eye circles
Niko is fully engaged, affectionate, smart, happy and just a typical little boy!
The only things left from his autism are:
-Still not potty trained but in all honsety I put it on the back burner to take care of everything else. We are actually going to start actively trying now.
-Still slightly speech delayed but he only started talking less than a year ago. So, in reality he is right on track.
-Still has trouble paying attention in class (ADD behaviors) but honestly I have observed and think he is just bored because in his play-based preschool it is the opposite!
-plays with kids but hasn't formed relationships yet. I think the speech delay is part of that. I think with in the next 6 months to a year those things will fall into place.
I think for Niko his recovery has been a combination of SCD, antivirals and homeopathy. I played around with dropping each one and he would always regress. The only thing that kept him moving forward was doing all three together.
Here is his very 1st school photo he took in Preschool a few weeks ago.

Cytat: Hi.

Ben's Mom

Hi Ben's Mom,

It's much easier for those of us who live and breathe autism every day if we can see your child in action. But from your description, I might suggest it's worth taking him to a physician that has diagnosed special needs children before... and see if he falls on the spectrum. It sounds as though he could be on the autism spectrum, but perhaps not severely so. But again, I can't tell sitting at my computer...
